CRYSTAL PALACE have taken a leaf out Arsenal’s book in their pursuit of Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, according to reports in Spain.
So Arsenal cheekily offered £40m + £1! The Reds called the Gunners’ bluff so the move didn’t happen.
Getafe’s Guaita has a buy-out clause of £7.1m, but Marca report he made a secret arrangement with the club whereby he will be allowed to leave should an offer of €4m (£3.56m) arrive.
And that Palace have made an offer of 4m euros plus 1 euro (89p).
It means Guaita is now free to negotiate a move with the Eagles.
Guaita’s departure for such a low price would be a nightmare scenario for Getafe as the will still owe his former club Valencia 20 per cent of the fee.
However, he would have the fans blessing as he opted to stay at the club despite offers elsewhere following relegation in 2016.
Guaita is desperate to complete his move to Selhurst Park and will not play for the second game in succession when they face Malaga at the weekend.
Watford were also keen, but it appears Palace are now in the driving seat.
